Her debut song Here was released in the year 2015. The track received praise from listeners and music critics. The song peaked at number 19 in both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone named the song one of the Top Songs of 2015. This same year, she also released Know It All. Scars to Your Beautiful is one of five tracks that were the first to reach Billboard's charts. According to an interview Cara did together with Rap Up, the song had a lot of meaning for many people who listened to her tale of learning to accept and love yourself. Cara is well-known for her ability to incorporate songs about mental health, compassion and self-love in her music. The inspiration for her music stems from her personal struggles to conquer mental health issues and insomnia. In an Reuters interview she describes the album as being half turbulent and half perfected. Her growth was aided through therapy. She also encourages her fellow singers when they need to seek support. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on July 11, 1996. Alessia Cara's parents bought her her first guitar when she was just 10 years old. It was the beginning of her journey with music. When she was thirteen, she began singing songs she loved on YouTube to demonstrate to her fans that she was a talented artist and was able to make a profession of a musician. A cover of one of her songs, Sweater Weather, was the one that got her attention. EP Entertainment gave her an opportunity to develop and compose her own music.
